Jerry Dill 1927-2005

Jerry Dill, 77, bass in the King's Heralds quartet at the Voice of Prophecy radiobroadcast from 1947 to 1962, died January 15, at Puyallup, Washington. Memorial services were held there on January 22.

Born August 16, 1927 in Calico Rock, Arkansas, Dill graduated from Auburn (Wash.) Adventist Academy. He attended Walla Walla College and Southwestern Junior College (now Southwestern Adventist University) and received his degree in theology from LaSierra College (now LaSierra University).

Dill and his King's Heralds colleagues sang not only in English, but also in several other languages used by Voice of Prophecy affiliates around the world. Known as Los Heraldos del Rey in Spanish, the quartet was featured regularly on La Voz de la Esperanza.

His 15 years with the quartet involved much travel, including many trips across the United States and Canada, as well as tours to Central and South America, the Caribbean, and the Far East. Dill was ordained to the gospel ministry in the late 1950s in a service conducted by Voice of Prophecy founder H. M. S. Richards.

After leaving the quartet, Dill served as a singing evangelist for the Central California Conference for a decade and then as a local pastor there.

During 1992 and 1993, he performed with the other members of the 1962 King's Heralds in a reunion tour of the U.S., Canada, and Brazil.

Both before and during retirement, he owned an almond orchard until moving to Washington in 2001.

Dill's family recalls that he remembered everybody he met and was passionate about leading people to Christ. He was very active in his local church.

He is survived by his wife, LaVona; 8 children: Jerry Dill Jr., Joan Kriz, Sharon Kearns, Sandi Frood, John Sevener, Carla Peterson, Keren Dill, and Kathleen Dill; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
